Simply by sliding across the upholstery and then touching an ECM circuit or terminal, a technician can cause sufficient damage to require replacing the complete ECM.  This will virtually eliminate the possibility of this happening. By wearing the wrist strap, and connecting the alligator clip to a good ground, the technician can work on electronic components without worrying about static damage.
