Evaporative emissions are subject to legal limits established under Federal laws regulating the release of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). Gasoline is made up of Hydrocarbons and is a VOC. Therefore the release of gasoline vapors is restricted. The evaporative emissions control (EVAP) systems restrict the loss of Hydrocarbons (HC) emissions while allowing the fuel tank to breathe as the fluid level changes.
