Description

The Atlas (RMCPA): Reverse Mount Center Post Adapter (Patent No.200920049822.3). The RMCPA was designed to make it easier (and safer) to change reverse mount and “deep dish” wheels on all Atlas and Coseng rim clamp tire changers. The Atlas RMCPA will also work on most other brands of rim clamp tire changers.

The Atlas RMCPA allows the operator to confidently mount and demount the most expensive powder coated reverse mount wheel or “deep dish” wheel assemblies with little concern of scratching or damaging these expensive rims. All reverse mount wheels must have the tire installed or removed from the “reverse” side (the back of the wheel). When using a standard rim clamp tire changer, the reverse mount wheel must be turned over (shiny side down) and clamped into place using the movable tire changer jaws. Plastic jaw protectors, (that snap over the metal jaws to reduce the possibility of damage), may inadvertently reduce the effective jaw clamping pressure.

Most tires mounted on reverse mount wheels have very stiff sidewalls. After the bead of the stiff sidewall tire is “broken loose” from the rim, the stiff sidewall (rubber) still remains very close to the edge of the (metal) rim. The close proximity of the rim to the tire bead makes it difficult to “feather” the position of the jaws to properly secure the rim. The Atlas RMCPA eliminates the need to use the tire changer jaws to “clamp” the wheel. The jaws are only used to clamp only the metal base of the RMCPA.

The edges of the decorative rim are not subjected to extreme clamping pressure or the possibilities of scratches from steel jaws. The expensive wheel is held securely in place by the center post cone (and lug pin) adapter system and cannot “slip” in the jaws. Expensive chrome and powder coated wheels are held securely without the possibility of damage to the wheel.

The RM Center Post Adapter increases the rim/tire capacity of most rim clamp tire changers. The Atlas TC 421 tire changer, with the use of the RMCPA, can now accommodate a 28” decorative rim. The maximum diameter tire/wheel assembly that can be mounted on many rim clamp tire changer is limited only by the back vertical column of the rim clamp tire changer.

The RMCPA works with most reverse mount and “deep dish” custom wheels. The RMCPA decreases the time it takes to safely change most decorative rims (and tires). Many operators are nervous about “feathering” the jaws to securely clamp an expensive rim. The RMCPA allows the operator (who is familiar with old-style lay down center post tire changers) to become a pro on a rim clamp machine with a minimum amount of practice.

The RMCPA, when installed on most brands of rim clamp tire changers, will make it easy for any operator to feel like an expert when working with expensive wheels. The side mounted bead breaker allows the operator to control the bead breaking operation of the tire changer to prevent rim damage. The RMCPA allows the operator to mount the wheel (decorative side down) over the center post and secure the wheel to the RMCPA (much like mounting the wheel to a computer spin balancer). The powerful electric motor (full power in forward and reverse) allows the operator to have maximum power (in both directions) when mounting/demounting tires.

The Center Post Adapter offers more “holding power” than wheel adapter sets that are locked onto the turntable jaws. Operator set-up time is minimized. Decorative wheels can be secured and removed from the RMCPA without operating the clamping jaws (which may result in damage to the rim).

When changing reverse mount or deep dish wheels, the Atlas RM-CPA (metal base plate) is securely mounted to the tire changer by the pressure of the air powered jaws. The operator then positions the reverse mount wheel over the center shaft (shiny side down) and securely fastens the expensive wheel assembly (through the center hole of the wheel) with the quick nut and protective cone adapter system. The lug bolt nylon pin adapter is inserted into one of the lug holes in the wheel to “anchor” the wheel to the mounting surface of the Atlas RMCPA. The decorative part of the wheel contacts only the rubber cushioned portion of the RMCPA (or the plastic protector of the lug pin adapter). The tire can be easily removed or installed from the back of the wheel resulting in no damage to the chrome or decorative front surface of the wheel.
